Thank you for your trust and your vote to allow me to serve as your sheriff four more years.

Sheriff Wright was first elected by the citizens of Fort Bend County in November of 1996.  His platform was straightforward; to provide justice with integrity, impartiality, courtesy, and diligence.  His proven ability to manage the Sheriff's Office can be measured by the confidence placed in him by the citizens of Fort Bend County re-electing him in 2000 and 2004.

Fort Bend County, nationally recognized for its rate of growth, must keep pace by continuing to provide a safe environment for families and businesses to thrive. In 2006, the Houston Chronicle identified Fort Bend County to be the safest of the top ten largest counties in the State of Texas. Sheriff Wright is the right man to ensure this will continue. He has announced his decision to continue to lead our Sheriff's Office by seeking re-election in 2008. If you share his concern in keeping Fort Bend County among the safest counties in the state; Sheriff Wright needs your support.

Deputies on Patrol

Sheriff Wright has doubled the number of deputies patrolling the streets of Fort Bend County. Not only are there more deputies, they are better equipped and better trained. Since taking office, Sheriff Wright has implemented a modernized patrol fleet equipped with the latest technology to enhance deputies abilities to perform their duties. Deputies complete their reports in the field and are able to electronically submit them immediately versus having to wait until returning to the station. The AVL (auto vehicle locator) system dispalys the location of  patrol cars to the dispatch center, reducing response time to calls and offering additional safety for the deputies. On board digital video recorders capture exactly what the deputy sees and hears as he conducts his investigation, making courtroom testimony much easier to present.

Jail facilities

A constitutional duty of the Sheriff is safekeeping of his prisoners. Fort Bend County has been recognized by the State Jail Commission for the efficiency of the jail facility. The populaton of our jail facility is effected by several factors. One such factor is the rate of growth, one of the fastest in State of Texas. Unfortunately, with such rapid growth there is a subsequent increase in the criminal element. This increase has resulted in the current jail population exceeding the approved capacity as set by Texas Jail Standards; despite a lower than average incarceration rate. Therefore, the voters have approved construction of a new jail tower providing an increased capacity to 1008: projected to meet the needs of the county for 15 years.   .

  Criminal Investigations

Successful investigation of criminal conduct is enhanced when caseloads are manageable. As our county has grown, so have the number of incidents requiring investigation. Sheriff Wright has sucessfully increased personnel and created specialized units within CID to better address this issue. Equally of importance in investigations is the working relationship that exists with other law enforcement agencies. Sheriff Wright's legacy as a lawman, developed during his career as a Texas Ranger, has expedited cooperation and assistance from all branches of the criminal justice system. Criminals making the mistake of committing crimes in Fort Bend County soon learn all crimes are thorougly investigated and no matter where they run they will be brought to justice.
